The Colors of New Growth

Our three days of Spring are here in Northern Illinois.

One of our relentless stories about the weather here is that we never have Spring, that it moves from freezing to 80 degrees F overnight, which is often how it feels.

Today has proven us wrong. After 2 weeks of dense grey rain, a brilliant 60 degree sunny day is lifting our spirits immensely.

Momma Robin is sitting on her nest right by the back door, just as she has done for the last two years.

We and our two dogs are constantly moving in and out of the house, and she just sits, watching us calmly. She’s buddha in disguise.

The crocus are gone, the daffodils are waning, and now it’s the tulips turn at brilliance.

The front slope of our garden is a riot of purple and pink. Seems like the violets and bleeding hearts have bloomed out overnight.

I’m ecstatic in the energy and inevitability of Spring.
