Postscript to Four Principles of Reinvention
The last four blog posts on Reinvention Revolution have been about what I call the Four Principles of Reinvention. You can access any of these by clicking on the blog category ‘Four Principles of Reinvention.’
I decided to write about Four Principles of Reinvention because in all the work I have done with clients who are reinventing, and with my own reinventions, I have come to understand these core principles of reinvention.
Of course, there are many additional important points about reinventing, but these four have really stuck with me as central and significant.
We are advised by many spiritual teachers to ‘enjoy the journey.’ This is indeed profound wisdom about life. But it’s also frequently a challenge for many reinventers, because there is no map in a life reinvention. And when there’s no map, it may be a little tougher to trust and enjoy the process.
I have noticed that when my reinvention clients become familiar with these reinvention principles, they become able to navigate their reinventions with more confidence and trust. They are much more able to enjoy the journey.
So now it becomes a matter for you to test these principles to see if they make sense to you and if they can help you in your own process of reinventing.
Almost everything I write about in this Reinvention Revolution blog is about how to ‘operationalize’ these principles so they work effectively for you in your own reinvention.
Part of my mission and passion in this work is to support midlife reinventers with ‘hope, inspiration, and how.’ I want to help midlife reinventers navigate the rapids of change with confidence, so they can enjoy the journey of reinvention as much as they savor the destination.
I’ve been committed to my own reinventing and becoming more authentic for the last 20 years.

You aren’t alone. As Susan Crandell said in her book Thinking About Tomorrow, reinvention isn’t a trend or a fad, it’s a revolution.
It’s my belief that part of the evolution of our culture and our world is a recognizing and reclaiming of our authentic selves. It’s a very individual and unique journey for each of us, but it is from a solid understanding of our authentic gifts that we are most able to give to our communities and our world also.
Our world evolves from each of our individual commitments to reinvent.
So, I invite you to set an intention to discover and be ‘the true you’, and you will find all the resources you need, not only to find your way, but also to enjoy your journey.
To this point, I’ve always been inspired by a quote by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, (1749 -1832):
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.”
